Undergraduate Fellow, Team Humans

Juliana Morera is a rising junior on Team Humans. She dedicates her profile to her beloved mentor, Stan Braude.

I’m forever grateful to have known Stan.

“I remember the first time I met Stan like it was yesterday. There was this warm glow to his office, and from floor to ceiling he had books, walnuts, animal skulls, and a wasp hive, all collected by him. He was brining berries on the floor. He made us tea. And he inspired my trauma-informed research this summer at Tyson.

My research is about implementing trauma-informed practices in environmental field stations to enhance safety, inclusion and learning outcomes. There are so many opportunities for unresolved stress to appear between the wildlife and conditions of nature. When I was dealing with my unresolved stress, Stan had me do a daily check-in:

  1. What is one beautiful thing you saw?

  2. What is one thing you learned?

  3. What is one kindness you received?

  4. What is one kindness you gave?

Stan told me, ‘When you look back, you’ll realize you learned so many things and saw so much beauty and gave and received so much kindness. There’s so much to be grateful for!’

I’m forever grateful to have known Stan.”
